7 Common Chigo Air Conditioner Problems Fixed!

Chigo air conditioners are a good choice for homes because of their top cooling and heating performance, ease of use, and reliability. That, however, doesn’t mean there aren’t any Chigo air conditioner problems, as there are several.

Common problems with Chigo air conditioners include the unit not turning on or keeps shutting off, a non-heating or non-cooling unit, leaking water, a flashing power light, and a non-working remote control.

Those are the issues I’ll help you troubleshoot. We’ll look at their likely causes and what you can do as an intervention to get your AC back working correctly.

I’ll later explain how you can reset your Chigo AC, especially after troubleshooting it but can’t fix the issue or clear an existing error code.

Let’s dive into it!

Troubleshooting The Commonest Chigo Air Conditioner Problems

Let’s now tackle each of the air conditioner problems shared in the above table.

1. Chigo Air Conditioner Failing to Turn On

Though you expect your Chigo AC to turn on when you press the power/start button, sometimes it won’t. If so, the issue stopping it could be any of these:

  • Power outage – If there’s no power at home, your Chigo AC won’t turn on. The easiest way to confirm is to check the lights or main meter box.
  • Non-working remote – Check out the issues shared under 7 to see if your remote control has a problem and fix it. The bottom line is that a non-working remote won’t turn on the AC.
  • Loose cable – Sometimes, you might have knocked the power cable off the wall outlet. If so, and it’s loose, the AC won’t turn on.
  • Bad outlet – If the power outlet is defective, the AC won’t get any power and will therefore fail to turn on. You can use a multimeter to see if the outlet is faulty, as the lack of continuity confirms that.
  • Bad fuse – If the power switch’s fuse is burnt, which may happen during a power surge, the AC won’t turn on. You can check if that’s the case with a multimeter, as the lack of continuity confirms a bad fuse.

Fix

Nothing to do if it’s an outage but wait for the power. If it’s not an outage, ensure the remote is working (discussed as the last problem) and firmly plug the power cable into the wall outlet. If the wall outlet or power switch’s fuse lacks continuity, replace it.

2. Chigo Air Conditioner Keeps Going Off

If your Chigo air conditioner only runs for a few minutes and then goes off, the cause could be any of these two:

  • Overheating – Your Chigo appliance might be overheating due to grime accumulation on the compressor or refrigerant leakage.
  • Malfunctioning thermostat – The thermostat could malfunction because of a wrong setting or defectiveness.

Fix

Start by checking the compressor for grime caking and clean it properly. Then check the thermostat setting and adjust it accordingly.

If you can’t fix it, have an AC expert check the thermostat for fault and replace it and the refrigerant for leakage and refill it.

3. Chigo Air Conditioner Not Cooling

Your Chigo air conditioner should be able to blow cold air uniformly and consistently. If the AC won’t cool below a specific temperature or fails to cool entirely, here are the issues to check:

  • Wrong setting – The AC’s thermostat should read a temperature below the room temperature when you want it to cool. Additionally, it should be in Cool Mode. If that’s not it, then it won’t cool.
  • Dirty filter – For proper airflow, the air filter should be clean. It, however, accumulates dirt over time, thus restricting the flow of cold air.
  • Blocked outdoor unit – The outdoor unit features a condenser, condenser coils, and heat exchanger, and they all need proper airflow. If they are blocked, perhaps by dirt, the AC won’t circulate cold air.
  • Open windows/doors – Once you open all the windows and doors, you invite cold air, which interferes with the air conditioner’s cooling performance. Sometimes the AC might be running, but you won’t feel it.
  • Direct sunshine – Too much sunlight towards the AC can prevent the AC from blowing cold. This may happen if the AC is too close to the window.
  • Nearby heat – A close heat emitter such as a burner, running computer, or heater can interfere with the AC’s cooling.
  • Frozen evaporator coils – If the evaporator coils are frosty, your Chigo AC will have difficulty running and cooling your space. This mostly happens due to refrigerant leakage.
  • Low refrigerant – Also, expect your Chigo AC not to blow cold air or any air at all if the refrigerant level is shallow. That happens when there’s a leakage, which an expert can help you troubleshoot.

Fix

Adjust the thermostat setting accordingly and switch to Cool Mode. Replace or clean the air filter if they are filthy and clear any dirt or other blockage from the outdoor unit.

Shut the open doors and windows and install; curtains on the window to shield the AC from direct sunshine. And more, move the AC from a nearby heat source and thaw out the evaporator coils.

Call an expert to inspect and refill the refrigerant.

4. Chigo Air Conditioner Not Cooling

A Chigo air conditioner won’t blow hot air for the same reasons it won’t blow cold air. That includes the following:

  • Wrong setting (which, in this case, is not selecting the heat mode or selecting the thermostat below the room temperature)
  • Clogged filter
  • Blocked outdoor unit
  • Open windows and doors (which, in this case, encourage warm/heated air from outside to come in)
  • Refrigerant leakage (which fails to absorb the circulating air)

Fix

Raise the thermostat’s temperature reading to above the room temperature and switch it to heat mode. Clean/replace the air filter if it’s dirt-clogged, and clean the outdoor unit.

Close any open windows and doors and call an expert if you suspect a coolant/refrigerant leakage characterized by frozen coils.

5. Chigo Air Conditioner Leaking Water

If your Chigo air conditioner leaks water, it’s most likely due to one of these reasons:

  • Clogged condensate line – Sometimes mold, dirt, dust, and sludge clog up the condensate line and causes water to back up, thus leaking.
  • Damaged condensate pump – If the condensate pump is damaged, it won’t pump out the condensate water, and the water will leak instead.
  • Damaged/rusty drain pan – Over time (10 years later), the drain pan rusts or breaks down, and when it does, water leaks through it.
  • Filthy air filter – A dirt-clogged air filter blocks airflow and water flow and may cause excess water to drip into the pan, which the pan cannot handle, causing leakage.
  • Low refrigerant – A low refrigerant can reduce the AC’s pressure, and when it does, the evaporator coils freeze over. Once they unmelt, the melted water will leak out.

Fix

Clean or vacuum the condensate line to unblock it and replace the condensate pump or drain pan if any of them is damaged. Replace/clean the air filter and have an expert check the refrigerant for leakage and refill it.

6. Chigo Air Conditioner Power Light Flashing

An air conditioner’s power light flashes because of a problem, and in the case of Chigo air conditioners, the problem could be:

  • Clogged filter – The air conditioner may flash the power button when the air filter is too clogged to work. This is more like an Ac warning to tell you to replace/clean the air filter.
  • Refrigerant leakage – If the refrigerant level drops significantly, it will not only cause the evaporator coils to freeze but may also cause the power light to blink.
  • Electrical fault – Sometimes, the flashing light points to an electrical issue. It could be that the printed circuit board (PCB) has a problem or the wrong wiring.

Fix

Inspect the air filter refrigerant and electrical wires. If the air filter is filthy, replace it, and if the refrigerant is leaking or you suspect an electrical fault, call an expert.

7. Chigo Air Conditioner Remote Control Not Working

Several issues could prevent your Chigo AC remote control from working, and they include:

  • Long range – If you operate the remote more than 10 feet away from the AC, the AC may not respond.
  • Exhausted batteries – Changing the remote control batteries when they start draining is advisable. If you don’t, then the remote might stop working at some point.
  • Wrong polarity – If you place the batteries wrongly (opposite polarity), the remote control won’t work.
  • Faulty sensor – At the tip of the remote is an LED sensor that establishes communication between the AC and the remote. If the remote falls and the sensor breaks, it fails to communicate, and the remote will not work.

Fix

Try moving the remote close to the AC (within a 10ft radius). Replace the batteries if it has been a while and fit them accordingly to the correct polarity. And lastly, replace the remote if the sensor is damaged.

Chigo Air Conditioner Reset

Generally, a reset is a good idea when an error code won’t go away after fixing particular problems or when your Chigo air conditioner won’t run, and you can’t explain why.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Option 1 – Unplug the air conditioner and remove the front panel to access the reset button. Then press the reset button and return the front panel before plugging the AC in.
  • Option 2 – Locate the reset button on your Chigo Ac remote (at the back or in the battery area) and press it using a pen’s nib.
